South Africa Squads For White-ball Series vs West Indies Announced, Aiden Markram Named T20I Captain
On Monday, March 6, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the appointment of Aiden Markram as the new T20I captain of the Proteas while naming the squads for the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.
Meanwhile, Aiden Markram, who recently led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory in the inaugural edition of the SA20, will take over the captaincy from Temba Bavuma, who had stepped down from his role.
Meanwhile, four players – Gerald Coetzee, Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton – have received their maiden ODI call-ups for the series against the Men In Maroon.
Also, several key ODI players have been rested for the first two games, keeping in mind the jam-packed schedule in the World Cup year. Notably, the pace-bowling duo of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje have been rested for the entire ODI series.
In an official statement issued by the CSA, head coach Rob Walter spoke about the addition of new faces to the team and the appointment of Aiden Markram as T20I skipper.

“This is a squad that is high on confidence after beating one of the best white-ball teams in the world, England, in their most recent series.
I am personally excited to see how the likes of Tony de Zorzi gets on in the ODI team, the same with Gerald Coetzee, following debuts for both of them during the ongoing Test series.
Both are players that have the potential to play a huge role in the future of the national team along with Tristan Stubbs, who has already made such a significant mark in the T20I arena.
“I am also excited to have Aiden take the reigns as T20I captain as he is very familiar to the setup and works well with those around him. He is a player that leads from the front and we have no doubt he will take this team to the next level in the years ahead,” he elaborated.
Also, JP Duminy has been named the full-time white-ball batting coach of the South Africa National Cricket Team whereas Rory Kleinveldt will join the side as a bowling coach only for the West Indies series.
