Navratri 2022 Day 1: Date, Puja Vidhi and Know everything about Maa Shailputri – Times of India


Maa Shailputri: Navratri is celebrated to worship nine different forms of Maa Durga (mother goddess) who is considered to be the source of ever-flowing energy. Navratri which falls in the month of September – October is known as Shardiya Navratri. This year, Shradiya Navratri is starting from today, 26th September, 2022.
Navratri 2022 Day 1: Significance
First day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Shailputri, who is the daughter of King of mountains (Parvatraj) Himalaya or Himavat and Maina. Maa Shailputri is one of the most prominent forms of Maa Durga. Maa Shailputri’s idol is depicted as a Goddess, who is sitting on a bull with a flower in her left hand and a trident in her right hand.
Goddess Shailputri possesses the divine powers of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. In Astrology, it is believed that the Goddess Shailputri controls the planet Moon. By chanting Adi Shakti mantras, one can get rid of the bad effects of the Moon and it also helps to maintain a healthy life.
Navratri 2022 Day 1: Story of Maa Shailputri
In the previous birth,
Maa Shailputri was the daughter of King Daksha, named as Sati. King Daksha was totally against Lord Shiva but Goddess wanted to marry Lord Shiva. Goddess Sati got married to Lord Shiva. Once King Daksha arranged a grand Yajna and he invited everyone in that yajna but not Lord Shiva. Goddess Sati wanted to attend that so she asked Lord Shiva about this but Lord Shiva asked her not to visit there without invitation otherwise it would be inauspicious. Even after his denial, she attended the Yajna so when she went to her parents place, king Daksha insulted Lord Shiva. At last she could not bear his husband’s insult and had a guilt feeling that Lord Shiva stopped her but she did not even listen to him and came to meet her parents. She then immediately surrendered herself in the fire and left the body and took rebirth as the daughter of Himalaya to marry Lord Shiva.
Navratri 2022 Day 1: Importance
People who are into meditation or they want to activate their chakras, it is a good time to activate your chakras as Maa Shailputri is the goddess of Root Chakra and she starts her journey upwards as Shakti towards Shiva, who resides in crown chakra. This is the perfect time to channelize your chakras to become aware of higher self and people can even experience the divine feeling of searching their soul through this medium.
By channelizing Mooladhaar Chakra (Root Chakra) people can have the power and face any kind of challenges in their life. It is believed that Maa Shailputri bless those people, who do it with good intention, dedication and devotion.
Navratri 2022 Day 1: Puja Vidhi
On the first day of Navratri, people do Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana to seek divine blessings from Goddess Durga and decorate their home and worship Goddess Shailputri by following pooja rituals and chant Mantras.
1. Wake up early in the morning and take a bath and wear clean clothes.
2. Take all pooja samagri (Paan, supari, elaichi, coconut, dhoop, diya, desi ghee, shringaar items, kumkum, vermillion or flowers, fruits).
3. Take a wooden plank or chowki, cover it with a red colour cloth and place an idol of Goddess Durga.
4. Offer the idol with chunni or dupatta, kumkum, vermillion and light a diya of desi ghee, offer paan with supari, laung and elaichi and five different types of fruits.
5. Take a kalash and decorate it with mango leaves, tie a red sacred thread (Kalawa) around the kalash then put coconut over that kalash.
6. Then take a pot and put the soil inside the clay pot and then spread the grain seeds. Now, add another layer of soil and grain seeds at the upper part of the pot and then put some water inside and cover it with a plate.
7. People must offer lotus flower to Goddess Shailputri and recite Durga Saptashati Paath.
8. People who observe fast must perform pooja and worship Maa Durga and chant Mantras.
9. Usually people break their fast by having sathvik food like Sama kheer, sabudana tikki, fried potatoes etc.
10. Some people only eat fruits during fasts and it is believed that people must observe this fast as it cleanses the body and the soul.
11. One must do aarti of Maa Durga before breaking their fast.
Maa Shailaputri Mantra:
1.ॐ देवी शैलपुत्र्यै नमः॥
Om Devi Shailaputryai Namah॥
2. वन्दे वाञ्छितलाभाय चन्द्रार्ध कृतशेखराम् ।
वृषारूढाम् शूलधराम् शैलपुत्रीम् यशस्विनीम् ॥
Vande Vanchhitalabhaya Chandrardhakritashekharam।
Vrisharudham Shuladharam Shailaputrim Yashasvinim॥
“I pay my obeisance to Devi Shailaputri, who bestows with the wish fulfilment. The Goddess who has crescent moon on her forehead. She is mounted on the bullock. She is Yashasvini.”
