Out of the many unforgettable moments from Roger Federer’s emotional sendoff at the Laver Cup 2022 in London, one, in particular, seemed to resonate in the tennis world- Rafael Nadal, Federer’s arch-rival, in tears throughout the retirement ceremony. Theirs was a rivalry that defined a golden era of men’s tennis and took the game to new heights. But their mutual respect and camaraderie are what inspire many. Federer’s career in professional tennis came to an end as he played his last match at the Laver Cup alongside Nadal. The duo stumbled to a defeat to Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. Post the match, Federer was in tears. Nadal also could not hold back his tears and the pictures of the two greatest tennis players getting emotional in tandem went viral on social media. Over his career, the Swiss tennis player Federer enjoyed a great rivalry with the likes of Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Hailed as the ‘Big Three,’ these stars dominated the sport like no one else. “When Roger leaves the tour, an important part of my life is leaving too, because all the moments that he has been next to or in front of me are important moments of my life,” an emotional Nadal was quoted saying in reports. He withdrew from the Laver Cup for personal reasons.
