Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team won by 6 wickets against Aaron Finch-led Australia National Cricket Team in the third and final match of the three-match T20I series on Sunday, September 25, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.
India won the toss in the match and asked Australia to bat first. Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green batted exceptionally well in the powerplay and provided his side with a great start. Then, Indian bowlers made a terrific comeback by picking wickets at regular intervals.

However, Australia were able to post 186/7 on the board, courtesy of Tim David’s brilliant power-hitting and Daniel Sams’ good contribution in the end overs. David smashed 54 runs off 27 balls, including 2 fours and 4 sixes, and Sams scored 28 runs off 20 balls, including one four and 2 sixes. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers as he finished his spell with the figures of 4-0-33-3.
Chasing the target, openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma failed to provide India with a good start. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli had an outstanding 104-run partnership that brought back the momentum towards India. Suryakumar Yadav got out in the 14th over after smashing terrific 69 runs off 36 balls, including 5 fours and 5 sixes. Virat Kohli scored good 63 runs off 48 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes, before getting out in the final over. In the end, Hardik Pandya smashed 25 runs to finish off the match and help India win the series by 2-1.
We took our chances, we were brave as well – Rohit Sharma

During the post-match presentation ceremony, India captain Rohit Sharma said:
“It’s a special place. We have had great memories playing for India and when I played for Deccan Chargers as well.”
Rohit Sharma further said that the biggest positive for them was “different individuals stepping up and delivering” good performances. He asserted:
“Biggest positive was different individuals stepping up and delivering. You feel good about it as a management.”
He added that India were brave in the match, however, they still need to improve in certain areas. Rohit Sharma was hopeful of Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah getting back to their best ahead of South Africa T20Is. He said:
“Margin of error in T20s is small. We took our chances, we were brave as well. Sometimes it doesn’t come off. There are areas to improve as well. Not easy coming back after a break against a tough team. They (Bumrah and Harshal) will take some time. Hopefully, they can get back into their groove in the next series.”
