NEW DELHI: With 12 of 19 Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MPs attending a virtual meeting with CM Eknath Shinde on Monday, sources in the latter’s camp said the members were set to form a separate group in the House.
The Shinde group, sources said, is likely to appoint a new group leader in the Lok Sabha and a chief whip on Tuesday. A leader from the Shinde faction said BJP is likely to allot two ministerial berths at the Centre to Sena MPs who join the group.
Shinde camp’s spokesman, MLA Deepak Kesarkar, said “all” Sena MPs were with them. Leaders from the Shinde camp said Mumbai South Central MP Rahul Shewale is likely to be appointed as the faction’s group leader in the LS, while Yavatmal MP Bhavana Gawli could be the new chief whip. CM Shinde is also likely to meet the BJP brass in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss Sena’s position in LS and the expansion of the Maharashtra cabinet.
